Boredom Strikes
I hate weekends like this. Luckily they aren’t that common. It was a very boring weekend in Hubsville. Stop reading now if you have ADD, if your easily bored, or have difficulty with the mundane.
I stayed at work a little late on Friday. At home I ate leftovers and fell asleep on the couch. I hate doing that. I Woke up Saturday, read for a couple of hours, then went and got the oil changed and the muffler fixed on the car. After years of neglect, she is once again becoming a finely tuned machine (at least drive-able). $300 dollars at a time. I also bought a new duvet cover and sheets, just because. Saturday night I went to a dual b-day party for two friends. Nothing eventful happened. I was the first guest arrival by at least ten minutes because I was so bored sitting at home. After the party I went to a local bar and proceeded to punish myself with a beam and coke (I really need to stop skipping meals).
On Sunday I got a serious case of the lazy’s that have been afflicting me lately and laid on the couch for most of the day reading and watching tv. Uhhgg and yawn. Sorry.

Fully Charged
You didn’t really expect it. Two weeks ago you shared a bottle of wine at the bar. You exchanged light conversation at first, but after a couple of glasses you both got braver, and gave each other gentle hints as to how you feel. What made you angry. What you miss most. What you want now. Something was accomplished, maybe it was just a little communication. But you both walked away from each other feeling better than you have about yourselves, and one another, for the past couple of months.
“Lets meet for dinner on Thursday, just to catch up and hang out.”

Coca-Cola Type Beverage Drink
I’m a soda guy myself. If I’m ordering from a “free re-fill” place I order a “drink”. If I want a “Coca-Cola type beverage drink” I order a Coke.

Corned Beef & Cabbage
I went out for dinner and drinks with A.P. on Tuesday. We usually try and get together at least once a month to catch up over a meal. However, this may one of the last times we’ll get to do that for a long time. See, A.P. is getting married in two months to a wonderful woman. He will be moving to the other side of town taking care of his new family (two children: 5yrs. & 8yrs.). He won’t have a much time for dinner and drinks with me in the future. But I’m really excited for him.
Last night me and my brother and his girl went out to mom’s for a little belated celebration of St. Patricks Day with a large meal of corned beef & cabbage. Yummy traditional Irish fair.

Questions To Ask God
On Friday I said if I had the chance to meet someone I’ve never met, from the past or present, Jesus Christ would be first on my list. The Ethical Atheist has a great list of questions to ask God should he/she ever decide to reveal themself.

Rocks The Mic
I have noticed that recently, a lot of the indie bands that I have discovered for myself - I say for myself because nobody I know listens to these bands, I hope you do because they’re rockin’ - are starting to show up on television. I first noticed this when I Am The World Trade Center had a portion of a song played on The Surreal Life. A couple of weeks ago I saw a song by one of my favorite indie bands, Papas Fritas, on a Dyntyne Ice commercial. I mention this only because a great band called Brassy is playing at the Bluebird tonight. Brassy currently has a song that is being played on a Motorola commercial. For all you in Denver with nothing to do tonight, go check it out. Muffin Spencer, younger sister of Jon Spencer (Jon Spencer Blues Explosion) rocks the mic and it’s bound to be a great show. I’ll make it if I can.

Mellow, Pleasant Weekend
I had a nice weekend. Nothing too exciting lots of movies and more skiing, it was nice. I left work early and met Leber and his Fiancé at the hogback. From there we carpooled up to his condo in Granby. We got a few beers and some french onion soup at Solvista.
On Saturday we went skiing at Winterpark. The snow was incredible. Definitely the best I’ve skied all year. We skied a long day then retired back to Lebers condo. Some additional friends met us there and fixed us a huge meal of spaghetti, meatballs, sausage, salad, asparagus, garlic bread, beer, wine, and vodka. And we watched Saving Private Ryan. Three of the five people in the room cried.
On Sunday we drove back into town and I went over to my moms for lunch. I watched The Virgin Suicides and caught up on the latest war news. It was a mellow, pleasant weekend.

Wishful Thinking 5
1. If you had the chance to meet someone you’ve never met, from the past or present, who would it be?
Jesus Christ. Although I don’t belive that he is actually the son of God, there is no doubt that he has been one of the most influencial people on this planet. I’m sure he’d have some great insights.
2. If you had to live in a different century, past or future, which would it be?Past, Early 1900’s. Or 30,000 years in the future given humanity is still around. The future is such a gamble though.
3. If you had to move anywhere else on Earth, where would it be?
New Zealand, South Island.
4. If you had to be a fictional character, who would it be?
Zeus. Ruler of the world (subject to change after more thought).
5. If you had to live with having someone else’s face as your own for the rest of your life, whose would it be?
Brad Pitt. I could do a lot with that smile.

Cold And Quite Around Here
It’s cold and quite around here. Not even the sounds of the city are around to keep me company. The snow muffles everything. While laying in bed last night I could hear the sounds of tree limbs cracking under the weight of the heavy snow and occasionally the waterfall sound of snow sliding off the steep roof of the church next door. In the morning I woke to the sound of snow shovels scraping the sidewalks (an all too common occurrence) and chainsaws cutting down fallen limbs. The snow has kept me socked in for the last two days. Mostly I’ve just been trying to keep from getting cabin fever. I’ve got nothing exciting to report. I went for a long walk yesterday but everything was closed. I didn’t dare try and take my car anywhere. On Tuesday night I went to a local bar. I waited, but you never made it. Why are you looking around? Yeah, I mean you. So went to another bar where an incredibly skinny and incredibly drunk gay (flaming) man hit on me till it got annoying. The bar tender actually had to tell him to lay off. I’ve been working like crazy lately. I’ve been watching a lot of TV too. There is lots happening around the world today. America is involved in another war. But here in Hubsville it just seems really quite and cold. And I’m just a little bit scared.

More Dumping
I guess I was right not to let that spring fever set in. It’s dumping here in Denver. Work was canceled today and may be again tomorrow. They are expecting two feet in some areas. Keep your fingers crossed. I’ll see you at the bar.

Our Final Destination
We left for Salt Lake City on Thursday morning. It only took us seven hours to reach our final destination. I checked into my room, unpacked, and got settled in. The big news upon arriving was of course the safe return of Elizabeth Smart. Helicopters hovered above my hotel for much of the day and a large celebration was held in Liberty Park on Friday. I met up with friends who came for the wedding and we all headed out on the town. We ate dinner at the Market Street Grill and afterwards some of the late nighters went and had drinks a the seedy Deseret Lounge which was just a beer bar (crazy Utah drinking laws only allowed them to serve beer), and the later on to Cheers To You.

Leelo
I got an e-mail minutes before I left work on Wednesday. It was Sabrina, Leelo had passed away on Tuesday. He apparently died peacefully and of old age. She was going to have a garden funeral for him at her moms house. She just wanted to let me know. I called her and told her I’d be over. When I arrived Sabrina and her mom were standing over a hole that was already dug out in the back yard. Sabrina was crying and lightly petting him. I gave her the flowers I had bought. While sprinkling rose petals over Leelos body I told a couple of my favorite stories about him.
I get along well with cats. They really seem to like me. Leelo was no exception. When I first started staying with Sabrina, I would wake up in the middle of the night with Leelo sitting upright on my chest, his wet nose an inch or less from mine. Surprisingly, it never startled me to wake up with this, in fact I enjoyed it. I would tease Sabrina that her cat was trying to suck the breath out of me while I slept.
Sabrina kept Leelo at her moms last summer. There he could leave the house, chase birds around Washington Park and do other cat stuff, instead of keeping him cooped up in her apartment. Leelo would often take off on an adventure for a day at a time, he had been doing it for the last 10 years. This time, however, he had been gone for three days and the worry and bad thoughts crept in. For the next two days we scoured the neighborhood, searching alleys, talking to neighbors, and posting up signs. The next day Sabrina got a call from her mom. A neighbor had found Leelo in the ally a couple of days ago, apparently hit by a vehicle, the neighbor disposed of him in a nearby dumpster. Sabrina was devastated. She had no chance to say goodbye, no chance for closure. We all cried a little bit. Two days later, emaciated and limp, Leelo showed up on her doorstep. Pulling the perfect Tom sawyer, Leelo used the last of his nine.
I’ll miss him.

Phone 5
1. Do you like talking on the phone? Why or why not?
I don’t mind talking on the phone. Most of my phone conversations are pretty to the point. I’d much rather talk in person, body language and non-verbal cues play a large part in conversations.
2. Who is the last person you talked to on the phone?
My mom.
3. About how many telephones do you have at home?
The only phone I have is my cell phone. Ask nicely and I might give you the number.
4. Have you encountered anyone who has really bad phone manners? What happened?
Not really. I’ve hung up on people in anger and had the same done to me but that is about the extent of it.
5. Would you rather pick up the phone and call someone or write them an e-mail or a letter? Why or why not?
It depends on how quickly I need to communicate, what information I’m communicating, and how important that information is.

Not Here
I have been slammed with work over the past couple of days. But no more! Tomorrow I’m taking an 8 hour road trip here, and am staying here in order to ski here.
I’m also attending a wedding on Saturday (one of many this year) in Utah. This should make for a nice and semi-relaxing long weekend away. Utah isn’t the greatest place to hang out during the winter (the summer is much more fun, i.e. moutain biking in Moab, camping in Arches, boating at Powell), but it sure is a great place to ski. I’m just really looking forward to getting out of town. I may not post again till I get back on Monday.
