Saturday Night’s All Right

Have you guys ever heard the Bodeans? You have, they sing the ?friends? song. Have you ever seen them live? Borrrrrrrrringggg. I took my mom to the Bodeans show on Saturday for an early Xmas present. It was all black suits and white t-shirts and incredibly dull lyrics. The jackass cowboy and the crazy dancing man in the brown leather vest kept me entertained for the majority of their set. Man, I didn?t know if I was going to survive that first set. The night redeemed itself though. Have you ever seen Sonia Dada? Yeah, neither have I but damn I was impressed. They were good. They had a cool southern gospel sound that really just seemed to fit. The three lead singers all had incredible pipes. All of them kept their egos in check and didn?t power each other out but still managed to sing at what seemed to be full strength. They covered ?Wish You Were Here? and ?Dear Mr. Fantasy? for the encore. It was also fun going to a concert with my mom. I know she really needed a night out after the past week and she really seemed to enjoy herself. I don?t think I?ve seen a concert with her since I went to Rod Stewart (I know, I know) back in 1994. Good times.

that’s cool that you brought your mom to a concert. The last concert my Mom went to was the Bee Gee’s in the 70’s. She was *really* into Disco.. Yet somehow she missed Studio 54???? I was like “mom what happened??” She said ” I was being a responsible parent”. Sigh.

i took my mom to see amiee mann last year, which was amusing because my mom thought it was a bit more rocking than she was up for.

and it you’ll pardon me for a slight correction, the bodeans didn’t sing the friends song, that was the rembrandts. the bodeans sang the theme song for party of 5.

yeah, my girls are right, it’s the rembrandts. a couple of years ago at my old work we had a party in honor of the birthday of the lady who wrote that song. she is one crazy, mixed-up, out there, weird, too much money from writing cheesy songs (she’s responsible for some 70s nightmares) chick.

You’re lucky. My mom likes country so I never get to go to shows with her.

man now i don’t know if the bodeans covered the rembrandt’s. omg. somehow that would just make it all just so perfect. perfect in the most fucked-up puking cherry pie and 2 litre bottles of purple passion all over your sheets kind of way.

Aww, I kinda like the Bodeans. It’s good “I’m hungover and depressed and getting drunk didn’t help any…” music.

It’s kinda in the same vein as most country songs: take a man, his ex-______, and a dead dog, and you’ve got a song!
