Takes A Lickin’ But Keeps On Tickin’
About three weeks ago I went into the doctors to make sure everything was in working order before my insurance ran out. I was running late, and ended up jogging about a mile from my office to my apartment. From there, rushing out to the doctors (on the way, getting a mandatory court date for speeding, 40 mph in a 20 mph school zone). By the time I arrived I was pretty winded. To me, it was no surprise that my heart rate was a little fast and my blood pressure was a little high but my doctor was concerned and scheduled me to come in again to have the ole ticker checked.
I went to visit my doctor again on Monday, to make sure it was just the rushing around that got my heart rate up. Unfortunately my blood pressure was still pretty high even though I was extremely relaxed after having had fallen asleep in the lobby while waiting for my turn to come up.
It was determined that despite promising to make some life-style changes, I should take some tests. After being prodded with a needle, peeing in a cup, and having some sort of electrodes hooked up to me (EKG) it was concluded that I have had high blood pressure for at least a couple of years now. As a result, the chambers of my heart have expanded. Growing in order to hold a larger volume of blood. I’d like to think it was to hold a larger volume of love but my doctor discounted that theory. My heart has gained more muscle mass and grown to a size that is unsafe if I don’t to do something about it now!
Going on medication was my choice, but they strongly suggested I get on some immediately. Damn, I’m in my early thirties and I’m a certified old fart.
See, the good times are killing me.

Over The River And Through The Woods
It blows me away how New York-centric the entire blogosphere is (cringe… I hate that I just said any of that). Or is it just me. Or is it that I just read too many New york sites and not enough North Carolina, California, Texas, Portland, Illinois, Missouri or Connecticut sites? I don’t know. But it seems the whole blog world is getting their panties in a collective bunch about Christo and Jeanne-Claude putting up some little curtains in the that one little piece of nature there in NYC. I mean seriously, you don’t see me getting in a huff over this.

Mardi Gras
So yesterday was Fat Tuesday. I guess that makes today Ash Wednesday. I’m not sure what any of this means but I do know that yesterday I was supposed to go out and drink a bunch of hurricanes. I failed to do even that. Mostly because of laziness.
On Saturday I went to Pandy’s Madri Gras party though. It was a lot of fun. I’ve been to all kinds of parties, but this was my first definate mardi gras party. She had the place decorated to the nines with streamers and banners, mardi gras lights, beads for everyone, masks for everyone, and a king cake. I found the baby in the king cake. I’m hoping that it will bring me some luck. I could use it right now.
