This amazing timeline, of nearly everthing, includes such factors as sunspots, population, popular music, major human events, epochs, war, and politcs among many others. It’s a visual representation of humanity that fits on one page. I’d love to have a poster of this in my office.

In the “Disembodied Cuisine” art project, they attempt to grow frog skeletal muscle over biopolymer for potential food consumption. A biopsy is be taken from an animal which will continue to live and be displayed in the gallery along side the growing “steak”. This installation will culminate in a “feast”. The idea and research into this project began in Harvard in 2000. The first steak they have grown was made out of pre-natal sheep cells (skeletal muscle). We used cells harvested as part of research into tissue engineering techniques in utero. The steak was grown from an animal that was not yet born.

Medianeras (party walls) is the Spanish word for the wall that separates two buildings regardless of whether one of them has been knocked down or not. Medianeras are quite haunting, like the ghost of a room, leaving behind the sings of life now moved on.

Being poor is knowing exactly how much everything costs. If you’re ever find yourself at the grocery store complaining because the guy in front of you at the “15 item” cash register line has 17 items, come home and read this so that you can at least be glad you were in line with a 1/2 gallon of milk and a hershey bar.

Many of you already know Bukowski is one of my favorites. In celebration of his birthday today, I’m linking to a James P Johnson’s astonishing mix of Charles Bukowski’s “Genius Of The Crowd” with Gwyneth Walker’s “An American Concerto: A Burst of Energy”. This is the best thing I’ve seen all day James, and I’ve seen a lot.

10,000 reasons civilization is doomed. A work in progress. I agree with a lot of these.

Despite being neither hip nor erotic I still have a soft spot (probably right near the funny bone) for hipsterotica.

During spring in Denmark, at approximately one half an hour before sunset, flocks of more than a million European starlings (sturnus vulgaris) join in the incredible formations that look like flying schools of fish. This phenomenon is called Black Sun (in Denmark), and can be witnessed in early spring throughout the marshlands of western Denmark.

There were Orgasmatrons in Woddy Allen’s terrrible movie “Sleeper” and on Motorhead albums, but i think the best one (a probably most likely to actually induce an orgasm) has to be Dominic Wilcox’s Orgasmatron 3000

The secret ordeal of Miranda Piker:

Before Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was published in 1964 Roald Dahl pared down his cast of characters. Last to go was Miranda Piker and her chapter has appeared only once — in mirror script. Here, for the first time, we publish her comeuppance the right way round.

How To Get The Gifts You Want

The holidays are over and you’re already tired of all the crap that was given to you that you didn’t really want in the first place. It doesn’t have to be that way. This year, although I didn’t get everything I wanted, I wanted everything I got; without having to return anything. So while your stuck with the Doom 3 Board Game I’m opening up gifts I actually wanted.

How did I do it? Well the first step is to be easy to shop for. Have lots of hobbies and interests and then talk about them. But also start a wishlist. Do it now so that there is plenty to choose from by the time your next birthday rolls around. Then when your uncle Guido asks you what you want for your birthday you can say “This Stuff”, then shoot him an email of your wishlist. I’ve been keeping a wishlist for a couple of years now and it’s worked like a charm. I suggest not sending your wish list to people who doen’t actually ask you what you want or you’ll come of as a greedy little ingrate. Below are a bunch of webapps, a short review, to help you get your wishlist started. Remember, the easier you make buying the gifts you want, the better your chances of receiving them are.

Music & Movies Of 2006

According to last.fm these are the bands that I listened to most during 2006 (of course this doesn’t include what was played on the ipod and ye ole stereo with ye ole cd’s):

    1 Modest Mouse
    2 Ween
    3 Big Bad Mutha Fuka
    4 Dressy Bessy
    5 Stevie Wonder
    6 Sodastream
    7 Snow Patrol
    8 Beastie Boys
    9 The Bouncing Souls
    10 Talulah Gosh

And these are the tracks I listened to most:

    1 Beastie Boys – Country Mike’s Theme
2 Ben Folds Five – Champagne Supernova
    3 Big Black – I Can’t Believe
    4 Big Star – ST 100/6
    5 Animaniacs – The Planets
6 Propagodz – Trax Cut Cold
    7 Barry Beatmaster – Benny’s Gay Bar
8 Bikini Kill – Rah! Rah! Replica
9 Afghan Whigs – Her Against Me
10 Billy Bragg – Lovers Town Revisited

The top 5 highest rated movies I saw during 2006 with my rating out of 5 (not necessarily released in 2006):

1 Little Miss Sunshine - A dark comedy that is loads of fun to watch. All the characters were interesting and the story was well thought out. A great laugh indeed. 5/5
2 Garden State - One of my recent faves. A movie for the indie yuppy in us all. 4.5/5
3 Stranger Than Fiction - An enjoyable and eccentric comedy that somehow holds up to its own ending. A sort of “Owen Meanie” meets “Groundhog Day” meets “Delirious”. 4/5
4 N Judah 5:30 (short) - A melancholy train ride filled with small, rich moments. 4/5
5 Heavenly Creatures - Macabre, immaginitive, brutal and real this is an unconventional teenage love story. The mood of this movie is what stuck out. I also had no idea it was true to actual events - right down to the verbatim narration. 4/5
6 Match Point - Not your typical Woody Allen. London not Manhatten, opera not jazz, Johanson not Keaton. A more serious movie for Allen with a touch of the noir and well worth the time & money. 4/5
7 Primer - A complete brain twister. But in a fun way, not a frustrating way. A movie to watch twice and talk about. 4/5
8 Me and You and Everyone We Know - ))<>(( 4/5
9 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - It’s really hard not to compare this to the original - so i will; this had worse music but a better backstory. 4/5
10 The Puffy Chair - I don’t need healthy relationships or happy endings in my movies which is one reason why I may have liked this movie everyone else loves to hate. I thought it was real, genuine & honest, but most wouldn’t agree with me. 3.5/5
