Workin’ It!
These girls are WORKIN’ IT.
I created this video last night. The music is a song called “Zukunft” by Estonian band Fuck Yuo I Am A Robot, which I also discovered while surfing around the web last night. Fuck Yuo I Am A Robot’s newest release “Compensator For The Accelerator” is available for download for free (as in beer) on their website, which, of course, is worth an additional 100 cool points. Their cover art states:
We praise the mp3 for giving the creative mind an opportunity to unleash itself from the established hierarchies of music distribution and bypass spoonfeeding by opinion leaders.
The website also contains a .pdf download of the cover and CD art that actually folds into a sleeve that will protectively hold your newly burnt disk. Anyways, cool music, nice design, and great attitude.
The video is of Gwen Verdon (Cacoon anyone?) shaking it to a dance choreographed by her husband, the talented Bob Fosse. The original dance was choreographed to a song called “Mexican Breakfast” by Pat Williams. As you can see Gwen really knew how to move and Fosse was way ahead of his time. Seriously, did Bob Fosse invent the bootyquake? Now go rent “All That Jazz” and “Caberet”, or just watch these videos.
As a bonus, here are three additional Fuck Yuo I Am A Robot songs courtesy of Jazzotheque:
Fuck Yuo I Am A Robot - Nina Robots That Shoot Laser Beams And Stuff
Fuck Yuo I Am A Robot - The Ride Ripoff
Fuck Yuo I Am A Robot - T.A.T.U. Remix
Hawaii Day 3: Na Pali Coast
When people think of Kauai, they often automatically think of the Na Pali Coast. It’s the most dramatic coastline in Kauai, and in my opinion, all of Hawaii, and perhaps the United States. The coastline is so beautifully rugged and majestic that it is a popular location for hollywood - Six Days & Seven Nights with Harrison Ford, King Kong (Both the new and classic), Jurassic Park, and Raiders Of The Lost Ark among others have all been filmed here.
Since this area is only accesible by air, sea, or overnight backpacking trips (which I’d really like to do someday), we book booked a tour with Na Pali Explorers. Our guide was a genuine Hawaiian Spicoli that was surprisingly knowledgeable had just enough new-aginess to pull the vibe off with charm.
The boat ride was a blast. Our group was really small with only nine others. We traveled the length of the coastline seeing waterfalls, dolphins, beaches, and explored sea caves along the way. Most of it all was located within the Na Pali Coast State Park. We stopped at the Nu`alolo park and archaeological site (warning loud music) for an informative nature walk, some lunch, and a bunch of snorkeling.

I love this wall map of Aboriginal Australia. Using the published resources available between 1988 and 1994, the map attempts to represent language, tribal or nation groups of Australia’s Indigenous peoples. Cool!

Warning! Curves Streotypes Ahead
In these here United States of America, there is probably no other possession that outwardly says more about who you are, or who you want to be, than your car. “What do you drive?” is heard at singles bars/hunting clubs/green conventions around the nation. Knowing all of that, how come I never knew that Subarus are considered Lesbian cars (I didn’t even know I was making a joke, I love outbacks)? What kind of Gay Wheels will your Pink/Blue Dollars buy?

Today I just just learned about Parkinson’s law [.pdf]. It is a simple relatively simple concept, but I was amazed at how it permeates nearly every aspect of my life. The law simply states that:
#Work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion.
The World Monuments Fund has a list of the 100 most endagered sites in the world. The list is announced every two years and calls attention to cultural heritage sites around the world threatened by neglect, vandalism, armed conflict, or natural disaster. The list covers 55 countries and all seven continents. Several of these endangered monuments are in the United States and one of them is in Colorado.
#Last October I told you about the unpublished chapter of Charlie & The Chocolate Factory. But I think this tops it. Uncovered at this link are the “under-published” works of Jerome David Salinger. This collection consists mostly of out-of-print short stories. Salinger has deliberately kept most of these works out-of-print or off the market, so it should be said, the above linked website not only infringes on Salinger’s copyrights, it also makes certain material obtainable against Salinger’s will. But I’m not going to feel shamed for sharing the link, because some of it is fucking beautiful.

Broken Picture Icon
No, That isn’t an error. It is supposed to be like that. Why would I post a broken link icon at the top of this entry? Did it trick you? It’s funny how common, everyday symbols can do our thinking for us - sending our minds onto some type of auto pilot. Is there a term for that? Yesterday I was surfing the net and came across this picture on the woostercollective and thought, “Wow. How fun. Where can I get me some of those stickers?” The website had very little information (who is Niko and Andrea?) So I decided to make some for myself. Then I though it would be fun to make them available to others in the Artifacting Store. My first one went on the upper right hand corner of the whiteboard in my office. Where is yours going?
While fiddling around, I also thought that the icon could look cool on a plain white envelope so I drew up some stamps with the broken image icon on it as well.
Anyway I hope some others can have some fun with these stickers, I’d be interested in finding out creative ideas others have used them for.
