This is a video of a washing machine on top of a trampoline – with a brick in it.
Bootsowen’s Youtube channel has a bunch of other crazy washing machine videos on it as well. But something about this one in particular is just delightful.

Referred to simply as The Lick this melodic element can be found in nearly all genres of music and played by all kinds of instruments. It has somehow managed to seed itself everywhere. It can be found as early as Stravinsky’s “Firebird†(1910). Player’s “Baby Come Back” and Santana’s “Oye Como Va” are based on variations of The Lick. Although the origins of The Lick are unknown, it has propagated throughout the entire musical kingdom as you can see from the two videos below.
I have come down hard on artists who use clichés too much. But I think The Lick proves itself as something greater than a musical cliché, something more like a musical meme. The best art copies, reconstructs, personalizes, mutates and owns up to other great artworks that came before it. Viva La Lick!
Happy Birthday Rodney Mullen!
On the heels of “Too Many Cooks”, comes Adult Swim’s horrifying, disturbing and genius “Unedited Footage Of a Bear”. It begins with candid footage of a bear, as promised in the title. The bear footage is interrupted by a fake infomercial for a side-effect-prone nasal spray called Claridryl. It then rapidly devolves into chaotic violence. It aired for the first time on Adult Swim this week in their 4am infomercial slot. It’s dark, uncomfortable and brilliant.
The video’s “Skip Ad” button will take you to the promotional website for Claridryl. Let the website play all the way through or click the house about 10 times. The video was directed by Alan Resnik of Alan Tutorial fame and Memime fame.
Some side effects effects may may occur. If side effects occur occur please form a second opinion. Your inside affects your outside side effects; Claridryl affects your insides effects on your outside. Please choose sides before consulting Claridryl. Claridryl is not responsible for switched sides, insides or out. What were you thinking? Claridryl is not related to that.
My father is a big fan of The Three Stooges so I’ve spent many a Sunday morning watching the Stooges clown around in black and white on the television. That’s why it was such a treat to stumble upon this rare color film of the trio. Filmed in 1938 at the Steel Pier, Atlantic City, New Jersey by George Mann of the comedy dance team, Barto and Mann. The film was shot without sound and held no other purpose beyond having fun.

“Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” is probably my favorite Christmas song simply because of its emotional ambivalence. It resonates closely with so many of the feelings I have around the Christmas season. The lyrics open up that uneasy longing for that unattainable ideal of Christmas that so many of us want. The holidays can be hard.
My emotions during the holidays weigh heavily. Christmastime brings a contemplative melancholia that I actually revel in, and there is a wistful type of comfort in accepting this. In knowing that the season is steeped in nostalgia and want for a better time and place. In accepting that my memories will grow a little dimmer with the passing of the year. In acknowledging that our world can be unraveled, changed, and built back up with little of our own control. In understanding that friends, family, or loved ones are gone from our lives – for good. I feel akin with the folks who recognize that Christmas can be complicated, emotionally irresolute, and inherently blue.

This photo of H.R., lead singer of Bad Brains, smoking weed with a supposed Brooke Shields has been circling the internet like crazy the last couple of days.

Although it would be incredible if this really happened, I’m sorry to say I’m 99.9% sure that isn’t really Brooke Shields. Which is too bad because it would have been the best picture ever if it was. However, don’t be too let down, Brooke actually has some strong punk rock roots. First off, Brooke did have an actual photo shoot with punk originator Stiv Bators, lead singer of the Dead Boys.
The above interview from Efrom Allen’s Underground TV was taken during the photo shoot with Stiv Bators. It aired on Manhattan Cable’s public access channel in the 1970s. The 12-year-old Brooke Shields actually gets a little flirty with the American punk rock innovator.
Furthering her punk rock roots, Shields opens up Agent Orange’s song ‘Bloodstain’ for the ‘Rondey On The ROQ Volume 1’ compilation. The album also includes rougher versions songs from the Circle Jerks, U.X.A., Black Flag, and Circle Jerks. Have a listen: Agent Orange – Bloodstains
This 55 second supercut, uploaded by Goddessshelleyduvall, is sampled from introductions to Shelly Duvall’s PBS program “Faerie Tale Theatreâ€. Shelley Duvall hosted and produced the program from 1982 to 1987. I’m certainly transfixed by both the rhythm and the costume/scenery changes.
