As Crocheted On TV

August 31, 2016 by hubs Leave a Comment

Crocheted On TV

The Crochet Time blog has an entire category that discusses crocheted blankets seen on TV. The blog’s author figures out the patterns and yarn types used in all kinds of throws and blankets from tv shows like Roseanne, Mad Men, Taxi (as seen above), and It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. Most of the afghans use a variation of the basic granny square but there is great variation in color, style and stitch.

If you google around you’ll find all kinds of people replicating blankets from their favorite tv shows. Things like this are why I love the internet.

Bookslut Is Dead. Long Live Bookslut

May 4, 2016 by hubs Leave a Comment

RIP Bookslut. It has published its final issue. I’m sad to see it go. I was never a heavy reader the site but I always had an affinity for it. See, my foray into the blogging world started fourteen years ago with a book blog that started just a month after Bookslut. So I have always considered Bookslut to be a much more worthwhile, articulate, entertaining and much smarter stepsister-blog to my little “I Love You Too” book blog.

There is an excellent interview in Vulture with Jessa Crispin, the site’s founder and editor. Here’s a favorite pull-quote to get you salivating:

There’s always space to do whatever you want. You won’t get as much attention, but fuck attention. Fight for integrity. Now everyone has a TinyLetter instead of a blog. As soon as the first writer got a book deal for a TinyLetter, everyone’s TinyLetter just became book-deal bait, written the same way. This weird conformity just takes over as soon as the possibility of money or access or respectability comes up. That’s disappointing.

Cloud Reporter

Cloud Reporter

A while back I stumbled upon this wonderful website called Cloud Reporter. It is simply beautiful, reader submitted, cloudy-sky-photos from around the world. Here is my first submission. As a proud member of the Cloud Appreciation Society, this really floats my boat.

The Top 100 Most Annoying Twitter Accounts

April 1, 2010 by hubs 1 Comment

It’s difficult to separate the signal from the noise on twitter. Actually, it’s difficult to tell if there is any signal on twitter at all (but that’s a whole other blog post). There are literally hundreds of over-active accounts, mostly bots, that provide little to no value to your average twitter user. Here are a few of the most blatant abusers.

InternetRadio is the most often updated (with nearly 900,000 tweets), non-news related, active account. It’s a bot that simply lists songs being played on shoutcast.com. I’m not sure what use this is to anyone. Ill Street Lounge and Boot Liquor (almost 420,000 updates) do the same thing for soma.fm

Father Time (over 275,000 tweets) is a bot that updates every minute, on the minute, with the time. That would be 720 times a day. How could that really help anyone? But if that’s not enough for you Is It Now… (over 550,000 tweets) does the exact same thing. At least Big Ben is entertaining.

ThinkingStiff (over 430,000 tweets) appears to be an account the owner is using to climb to the number one spot on the Cursebird leaderboard. This is actually a somewhat interesting project but is still a very annoying twitter account.

Twitterholic keeps a continually refreshed list of the 100 most updated (annoying?) accounts in twitter.

Full disclosure: my incredibly annoying twitter account can be found @hubs.

Star Wars Initial Stickers

The image above is was made with the incredibly nostalgic Topps Star Wars ESB Stickers and help from the Restraining Bolt image generator. A similar generator can be found using 1974 Topps Monster Initials. Hat tip to Mr. Lady.

Heavy Petting

April 27, 2009 by hubs 2 Comments

I have no idea how people think this stuff up. This blog consists of found, amateur, pornography witch contains a pet (usually a cat or dog) in the frame (but not involved in the act thank god). The people are then colored over ,making the image somewhat SFW, but the pets are left intact. Weird.
