Champagne OK

This is a random clip taken from “The Boy in the Plastic Bubble” (1976). Whether it’s the botched editing job between “oooo-owwww”, the palpable sense of self-satisfaction Robert Reed exhibits after he’s contained the chaos of bubbly eruption, or the final announcement that the disaster has been averted, this tiny element of film makes me feel ok…Champagne OK! After all, having had your child banished to the purgatory of a giant bubble, wouldn’t you-yourself feel that same sense of ‘victory’ having single-handedly contained an outright onslaught of smaller bubbles?

When I was a very young kid, I remember sitting on the couch next to my mom and loving this movie, yet probably not understanding it at all. I just added this to my netflix queue and can’t wait to see it again for the first time.

Sheboygan Scanner

Sheboygan is a small city of approximately 50,000 residents – a population that seems to provide an endless stream of dumb criminals and weird, small-town crime. Maintained by an anonymous user since February of 2009, the @sheboyganscan twitter account has tirelessly transcribed entertaining communications that come through the Sheboygan, Wisconsin police scanner. Here are a few gems I’ve cherry picked for you:

Running With The Devil

This isolated audio track of Running With The Devil, from Van Halen’s début album, is highly entertaining. I found this buried deep on my old laptops hard drive last night so I have no idea where this originally came from (if you know the source tell me in the comments so I can link to it) but I had to share it. You are absolutely right David – the simple life ain’t so simple.

Worlds Tallest Waterslide Is Set To Open Soon

Verruckt

It is called Verrückt. At 168 feet and 7 inches tall, it’s drop is longer than both Niagara Falls and the Statue Of Liberty. It is slated to open in Kansas City, MO at the Schlitterbahn Kansas City Waterpark on June 5th (tentatively).

The water slide was originally slated to open on May 23 was delayed after test riders reportedly go airborne. Officials say they need more time to “fine tune” the water coaster before park goers are allowed to ride it. Check out the unsuccessful test runs in this video from the Travel Channel

Gravity Is A Mistake

I typically prefer roller coasters over the dizzy, spinney, types of amusement rides. However, the rides being engineered by the Institute For Centrifugal Research (ICR) look like a barrel of fun. But not only is the IRC trying to create good times, they’re attempting to increase the cognitive function of their riders through centrifugal research. While most of their rides are for adults only, Dr. Nick Laslowicz is hoping that the Centrifuge Brain Project will theoretically improve the passenger’s cognitive abilities through “achievements in the realms of brain manipulation, excessive G-Force and prenatal simulations.”

Blueprints for some of the rides developed by the ICR can be found below:

ICR Dandelion

The IRC has lofty goals of having “These machines provide total freedom by cutting all connection from the world you live in – communication, responsibility, weight.” The amusement park rides are said to have created profound experiences “Which in many people in many people resulted in the readjustment of key goals and life aspirations.” However, as you’ll see from the video below these goals have come at a cost.

Disneyland Entry Whistle/Sound Ringtones

There have been a few people coming to Artifacting.com looking for the ringtones of the little whistling sound that is made when you go through the turnstile at Disneyland so I thought I would post free downloads of it for anyone that wanted them as ringtones for their phone or alerts for their computer. I have also posted the sound that you here when they scan your ticket while entering Disneyland. Enjoy.

Bouncehausen Halloween Performance

At the Art Of Bleeding’s Halloween extravaganza held in Los Angeles this year, they will be hosting a rare live appearance by the enigmatic band/art-collective known as Bouncehausen. Their performance sounds like it is going to be both spectacular and horrific.

Bouncehausen will sonically recreate the exact moment of impact of a terrifying automobile crash, slow it down 300 million times and stretch it into one seven hour epic “song” that will take three days to play. If you are able to witness even a small part of this historic event you will have a much greater understanding of what it sounds like to exist on a molecular level as steel and glass twist and explode.

The collective is expected to sustain and revive themselves for the duration of the three-day performance through intubation. Yikes!
