There has to be some sort of secret meaning here but I haven’t been able to figure out yet.
A matryomin is an unusual instrument. It’s a cross between a miniature, pitch-only, theremin and a matryoshka doll (a Russian nesting doll). The instrument has a cult following in Japan.
This video shows a matryomin ensemble called “Da” at the auditorium of Jiyugakuen Myonichikan in Tokyo on 22 Jan. 2011. The ensemble consisted of 167 musicians playing Amazing Grace. It sounds wonderful – in a strangely creepy sort of way.
Recently the ensemble group Da broke a world record for the “Largest Matryomin Ensemble” by gathering over 277 musicians in concert.

Although it would be incredible if this really happened, I’m sorry to say I’m 99.9% sure that isn’t really Brooke Shields. Which is too bad because it would have been the best picture ever if it was. However, don’t be too let down, Brooke actually has some strong punk rock roots. First off, Brooke did have an actual photo shoot with punk originator Stiv Bators, lead singer of the Dead Boys.
The above interview from Efrom Allen’s Underground TV was taken during the photo shoot with Stiv Bators. It aired on Manhattan Cable’s public access channel in the 1970s. The 12-year-old Brooke Shields actually gets a little flirty with the American punk rock innovator.
Furthering her punk rock roots, Shields opens up Agent Orange’s song ‘Bloodstain’ for the ‘Rondey On The ROQ Volume 1’ compilation. The album also includes rougher versions songs from the Circle Jerks, U.X.A., Black Flag, and Circle Jerks. Have a listen: Agent Orange – Bloodstains
The passing of MCA has me thinking about the Beastie Boys and reminded me of this 23 minute Megamix by Z-Trip you can stream below. Z-Trip says:

This mash-up of Adele’s “Set Fire to The Rain” Vs. Daft Punk’s “Something Between Us” mashup Carlos Serrano is making it big on the interweb right now. It is clocking in with over 100,000 listens on SoundCloud after only two days and is currently sitting at number one on Hype Machine. It’s an inspired mash-up and sounds like it should have been created this way from the beginning. Don’t roll yours eyes cause it is another Adele song, it’s very deserving of its accolades. Have a listen.

There have been a few people coming to Artifacting.com looking for the ringtones of the little whistling sound that is made when you go through the turnstile at Disneyland so I thought I would post free downloads of it for anyone that wanted them as ringtones for their phone or alerts for their computer. I have also posted the sound that you here when they scan your ticket while entering Disneyland. Enjoy.
Apparently this came out sometime back in 2009 but somehow I missed it. “In The Aeroplane Over The Bleep” is an 8-bit/chiptune version of the seminal indie classic “In The Aeroplane Over The Sea“. I had a little trouble finding anything out about the makers of the song but I hope they come out with more.
Considered by many to be the mother of all Ween bootlegs, Rotten Cheese is a six disc compilation showcasing the finest and brownest moments of Ween’s 1994-1995 Chocolate & Cheese tour. The comp was put together by Kirk Miller, Ween’s sound mixer during the tour so all the songs are straight off he board. There are plenty of highlights here including the 26 minute long “Poopship Destroyer” recorded in Hamburg, Germany, to obscurities like “I Get A Little Taste Of You” and “Dirty Money”. But as you can see from the track lists below this only scratches the surface.

Back in 2009 the admirable Secret Stash Records (a cool label out of Minneapolis along the same lines as Numero Group) began working with the Jeremy Taylor estate, a music professor at NYU, to dust off this collection and breath new life into it via a blue vinyl-only release.
In the spring of 1981 a group of reggae studio musicians from Jamaica gathered in New York City under the direction of Jeremy Taylor, a music professor at NYU at that time. The result was this Reggae Interpretation of Kind of Blue.
Unfortunately, weeks after directing the sessions Taylor passed away in his Paris hotel room while on a speaking tour of Europe. A final mix of the album was never made and it was never released. Collectors have long spoken of this album and in the late 80s lo-fi cassette tapes of rough mixes circulated. No official release was ever issued until now.
The final release of the album has both final mixes on side-A and dub versions on side-B. A Reggae Interpretation Of Kind Of Blue is the result of their efforts. Here’s a sample for your listening pleasure:
