I love sushi. But that is only part of the reason I enjoy Sung Hwan Jang’s wonderful sushi infographic. The graphic’s eye pleasing and cartoonish simplcity hit me right in the Chris Ware. Sung has put together all kinds of fun graphical posters detailing everything from pizza to constellations to camping to the Bauhaus art movement.
I’d love to get this poster for my kitchen but I’m unsure how to purchase it from the Korean websites.
This weeks (October 8th, 2012 issue) New Yorker vilifies the modern idea that everyone is a curator. The craze to claim to “curate” everything in our lives has become absurd and Emily Flake very pointedly identifies the ridiculousness of this infraction. Good stuff.
“All My Friends Are Still Dead” is the new sequel to the humorous “All My Friends Are Dead“, that has been mentioned on this blog a couple of times before. The book is an, “illustrated compendium of the humorous existential ruminations of people, animals, legendary monsters, and inanimate objects.” I’m sold and if all your friends are dead too, then maybe you should just buy one for yourself.

Caiterhe snapped a picture of this horribly wonderful tailgate art on a truck here in Denver. Even better, is that the tailgate inspired cartoonist Ian JQ to draw the worm woman in several, um unique, poses.

Way back in March of 2007 I posted a link to a cartoon called “All My Friends Are Dead” by Avery Monsen & Jory John. Back then, the cartoon was posted for all to see for free on the web – the link has since been removed. However, the very funny cartoon (and well worth the link back in 2007) has recently turned into an 96 page hard cover book. Congrats guys!
Yesterday an animated gif below, consisting of a few pages from the book, became the most re-blogged thing (of all time!) on tumblr.
This guy has been at it for a little while now. He’s come a long way since his first drawing. For some reason I really like his drawings. I can’t tell if it’s the creativity or the simplicity that I like most. Maybe it’s because it seems Sam Brown draws just because he likes to. Not for money, not as a job, or not to “express his complicated emotions”. And I love it when an artist will say this “you do not need my permission. I urge you to use my drawings however you like. print them out and hang them up. email them to friends. paint your own copies of them on your walls. use them in your Powerpoint presentations.” Anyway, if you don’t feel like exploring the links, a few of my most recent favorites can be found below. I just got in from a two-hour lunch and nobody even realized I was gone. I can’t tell if that’s a good thing or not. It’s beautiful outside and was the perfect afternoon to go walk around. I can feel the slightest bit of spring fever starting to settle into my bones. But I won’t be fooled quite yet there is still a few more snow storms left in the year (if were lucky).
The reason I took such a long lunch was to go check out a showing of some of Shag’s (Josh Agle) artwork on display at Th’Ink Tank. There were about 30+ pieces on display. Every one of them sold on opening night. Shag’s work is a cartoonish rendition of the swank 1960’s swinger or mod culture. Themes include tiki heads, shriners, spies, voodoo lounge, devils, and cocktails. A couple of my favorites can be found below. Check out his website for more.
